about

“Genius! As an alumni to Miles Davis, these are the types of projects that we need to continue his legacy.” - keyboardist Deron Johnson

This is from a live performance produced by Angelo “Scrote” Bundini at the blue whale in downtown Los Angeles. It was part of a series of shows he organized interpreting storied artist & composer catalogues with a rotating cast of top session and recording musicians and artists.

This particular performance focused on Miles’ famed electric period. The players here have worked with a wide variety of notable artists such as Miles, David Bowie, Adrian Belew, Chick Corea, Seal, Robben Ford, Will.i.am, Allan Holdsworth, De La Soul, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and John Williams.

The night consisted of two sets. This is the first set which was an hour long segue particularly arranged by Scrote. It fused 8 Miles tunes with an ebb and flow between groove, beauty, and fury. The musicians were locked in vision and passion. The audience hung on every note. Even the room itself was included in the performance.

Scrote had one guitar amp on stage behind him and one amp on top of a wall where it buzzed across the audience as he ping pongs or combines them randomly during solos and different sonic and rhythmic ventures. Trumpeters Dan Rosenboom and Jab brilliantly shared the Miles role and enhance it by occasionally leaving the stage to play off mic down the hall behind the band or at an effected mic in the audience facing the band. Cellist Isaiah Gage made a guest appearance on Nem Um Talvez singing with the melody off mic. Scrote whistles in unison with Deron Johnson as he beautifully plays the melody of Little Church. Tim Lefebvre, Josh Lopez, Troy Ziegler, Deron Johnson, and Scrote constantly twist electronics and explore alternative techniques while Gary Novak & Danny Frankel explode or soothe the room on kit and percussion.

This night was a much heralded success. The kind of night that creates a buzz with musicians and spreads like wildfire the next day. It led to another performance months later with a slightly different but similarly spectacular roster of musicians. We’re so happy to be able to share this joy ride with you.
